Account Opening

Q1. How can I open a Phillip Futures trading account?

If you are in Singapore:
Please make a visit to our Main Office to complete the Account Application Form.

If you are overseas:
Please register here and we will contact you once we receive your registration.

The requirements for opening Individual/Joint account are as below:

Q2. How long does it take to open a Phillip Futures trading account?

Usually we need 2-3 business days to process a new account upon the receipt of client’s funds and all necessary documents. Corporate account will require at least 5 business days. However, under some circumstances, it may take slightly longer. We greatly appreciate your understanding in the event of any delay.

Q3. Do I get credit interest for excess funds in my Phillip Futures account?

Phillip Futures pays credit interest for excess funds in selected currencies. Rates will change from time to time.

You can check the interest structure via POEMS:
Log in to POEMS → FUTURES or FOREX/GOLD → ACCOUNTS → Financial Summary → Credit Interest Rate

Q4. Is there a trading limit?

The default limits range from 20 to 40 lots depending on customer’s risk profile.

Q5. Can I use my Phillip Securities account to trade Futures or Forex/ Bullion?

No. Although Phillip Securities and Phillip Futures are under PhillipCapital, we are considered as two separate entities. In order to trade in Futures or Spot Forex or Bullion, you have to open a separate account with Phillip Futures.

Upon the approval of your account, we can do a linkage between your Futures account and your Securities account. This will allow you to trade Stocks, Futures, Forex/Bullion etc with a single trading platform, POEMS. However, the funds in your Futures Account will remain in a separate account from funds in your Securities account. You may use the Online Withdrawal facilities on POEMS to transfer funds between the two accounts.

Q6. Can I transfer the initial deposit from my securities account to Phillip Futures for account opening purpose?

Yes, you may transfer the initial deposit from your Phillip Securities account to Phillip Futures account.
Login to POEMS → STOCKS → ACCT MGMT → Online Forms → Withdrawal Form

  • Key in the amount to be withdrawn
  • Select Quick Cheque Deposit into Bank (others than above)
  • Indicate Phillip Futures as the bank name
  • Indicate your Phillip Securities account number (i.e. your POEMS login) under A/C No.
  • Submit

Q7. I am a US citizen/Green Card Holder; can I open a Phillip Futures account?

Yes you can open a Phillip Futures account but the account will be restricted to the following:

  • Account Balance to be kept in Non USD currencies
  • Trading on Non USD related products only (i.e. Profit & Loss, Required Margin and Commission that does not involve USD)

Account Statement

Q1. How do I view my daily account statement?

A daily activity statement will be sent to you either through email or to your mailing address depending on the option that you chose. You would be able to choose between the options when you open the account. If you would like to switch from email to mail format or vice versa, please contact our Marketing Desk at (65) 6538 0500.

If you are using POEMS currently, you would be able to view your account details via POEMS (log in to POEMS)> Futures or Forex/Gold > Account > Financial Summary.

Q2. Why am I charged interest on margin deficits?

If you do not have a particular currency in your account and you are trading a contract that requires that particular currency (as margin or unrealised losses), you will be charged interest for having a deficit in that currency. Rates will change from time to time.

Q3. Will there be an auto conversion by Phillip Futures to cover the deficit?

Phillip Futures will not do any conversion without the client’s consent or instructions. Clients may call the Forex Desk at (65) 6536 7200 for the latest conversion rates. If the client finds the rates favourable, he can instruct the dealer to assist with the conversion which will be done immediately. Clients may also choose to do the online conversion themselves via POEMS (log in to POEMS)> Forex/Gold > FX Invest.

There is no charge for conversion done both online and through the dealer.

Q4. What is the interest rate that will be given/charged for my excess/deficit? How can I get the information?

Once you have an account with us, you will be able to get this information via POEMS:
Log in to POEMS → FUTURES or FOREX/GOLD → ACCOUNTS → Financial Summary → Credit Interest Rate Or you can contact our Marketing Desk at (65) 6538 0500 or email futures@phillip.com.sg for details on the interest rates for respective currencies. Please note that rates will change from time to time.

Top-Up and Withdrawal

Q1. How do I top-up my Phillip Futures Account?

To facilitate settlement of your trading transactions/margin call, you may opt for any of the following settlement mode:

  • Cash Payment (Acceptable only at Main Office between 9.00am and 6.00pm from Monday to Friday except Singapore public holidays).

*Please note that we only accept SGD cash.

  • Cheque (Note: Please cross the cheque; strike-off bearer and make cheque payable to “Phillip Futures Pte Ltd”.

Kindly indicate your Phillip Futures Account number and contact number on the reverse side of the cheque).

Following is the charges involved in cheque deposits:

SG Dollar Cheques drawn on Local banks No Charge
US Dollar Cheques drawn on local banks No Charge
Cheques in other currencies and USD cheque drawn overseas 0.125% commission plus postage/cable costs where applicable

Cut-off timing for next business day clearance: 1.00pm for S$ and 9.00am for US$.
Clearance of foreign cheque will take at least 1 week to a month.

  • Internet Banking (Bill Payment Facility) – DBS or UOB or Citibank(Only applicable for SGD)

DBS/POSB iBanking → Payment Services → Add New Billing Arrangement

Payee Name: Phillip Futures
Consumer Reference No.: Your Phillip Futures account no. (e.g. ABC1234)

Once added successfully, you can go to “Bill Payment” to make the transfer to us.

UOB

UOB Internet Banking → Bill Payment → Add Payee

Billing Organisation: Phillip Futures Pte Ltd
Bill Reference No.: Your Phillip Futures account no. (e.g. ABC1234)

Once added successfully, you can go to “Bill Payment → Pay Bill” to make the transfer to us.

Citibank Singapore

Citibank Online → Payments & Transfers → Add Payee

Payee Type: Pay Billing Organisation
Payee Name: Phillip Futures Pte Ltd
Account No. with Payee: Your Phillip Futures account no. (e.g. ABC1234)

Once added successfully, you can go to “Payments & Transfers” to make the transfer to us.

*Note: If you submit before the bank’s cut off time, the funds will be received by us the next business day. If you are urgent in initiating a trade, you may want to provide us a print screen of your transaction so that we can credit you in advance.

  • Transfer from Phillip Securities

Customers who have securities trading account with Phillip Securities can request for transfer of funds from their Securities account to Futures account.

  • Telegraphic Transfer (TT)

Overseas customers can also choose to TT the fund to us. Details of TT Instruction can be obtained from our Marketing Desk at (65) 6538 0500 or email futures@phillip.com.sg You can also download our bank details from our website.

USD10 will be charged to your Phillip Futures account for incoming funds remittance.

Q2. Can I top-up my account with other currencies?

Yes. If you wish to top-up your account with currencies other than SGD and USD, you will have to do a Telegraphic Transfer (TT). More detailed TT Instructions can be found here.

Please note that USD10 will be charged for incoming funds received via remittance.

Q3. How do I transfer funds from Phillip Securities to Phillip Futures?

You can transfer your surplus in your Phillip Securities account to your Phillip Futures account via POEMS. Log into POEMS → STOCKS → ACCT MGMT → Online Forms → Withdrawal Form

  • Insert the amount you wish to withdraw
  • Click the option, “To Transfer into Trading A/C" and select your Phillip Futures account
  • Click “Submit" to confirm the transfer

*Not applicable if your Phillip Futures account is not linked to your Phillip Securities account OR your Phillip Futures account is not yet set up. Please select “Quick cheque deposit into Bank (others than above)” and key in “Phillip Futures” as the bank name and your “POEMS number” under “A/C No.” then submit the instruction.

Q4. How do I withdraw money from my Phillip Futures account?

There are two ways for you to initiate withdrawal of funds:

  1. Online withdrawal via POEMS

Log into POEMS → FUTURES or FOREX/GOLD → ACCOUNTS → ACCT MGMT → Withdrawal Form

  • Check on the currency to be withdrawn
  • Insert the amount you wish to withdraw
  • Select the Action (i.e. to withdraw in that currency selected or to convert)
  • Select the option of how you wish to receive your fund (Quick Cheque Deposit, collect cheque personally etc.)
  • Click "Submit" to confirm the transfer

Note: If you wish to check if your withdrawal submission is successful, you may check under “Transaction History". The option can be found at the top left corner of the withdrawal page.

  1. Complete the withdrawal form

You can download the form from our website. Alternatively you can obtain from our office or request from our Marketing desk at (65) 6538 0500 or email to futures@phillip.com.sg

Note:

  • The cut-off time for online withdrawal submission is 9.15am and hardcopy form is 10am, any submission thereafter will be processed on the next business day
  • Remittance charges will be borne by client and will be charged by banks processing the remittance. Phillip Futures will not be charging any fees.

Q5. Can I transfer funds from my Phillip Futures account to my Phillip Securities Account?

Yes. You can transfer funds from your Phillip Futures account to your Phillip Securities account.

Log into POEMS → FUTURES or FOREX/GOLD → ACCOUNTS → ACCT MGMT → Withdrawal Form

  • Check on the currency to be withdrawn (either SGD or USD)
  • Insert the amount you wish to withdraw
  • Select the Action (i.e. to withdraw in that currency selected or to convert)
  • Select the option “Internal Transfer within Phillip Group" and select your POEMS account no. If your POEMS account no. is not in the drop down list, select “Others” and insert the POEMS account no. that you want to transfer to
  • Click “Submit" to confirm

Note: If you wish to check if your withdrawal submission is successful, you may check under “Transaction History". The option can be found at the top left corner of the withdrawal page.

Alternatively you can submit the withdrawal instruction by completing the withdrawal form.

Note: The cut-off time for online withdrawal submission is 9.15am and hardcopy form is 10am, any submission thereafter will be processed on the next business day.

Q6. Upon submitting the withdrawal request, how long does Phillip Futures need to process it?

We need at least 1 working day.

Cut-off time:

  • For online withdrawal: 9.15 am daily.
  • For withdrawal forms received via email or fax: 10.00 am daily.

If clients submit their withdrawal request before the cut-off time, it will be processed within the same day. Or else, it will be processed on the next business day.

Update of Personal Particulars

Q1. How can I update my latest particulars with Phillip Futures?

You may submit your latest particulars online through POEMS
Login to POEMS → FUTURES or FOREX/GOLD → ACCOUNTS → ACCT MGMT → Update Particulars

You can also download the Update of Particulars Form from our website.

For updating of residential or mailing address, please provide a copy of documentary proof (e.g. front and back of your updated NRIC or latest bill /statement).
